Information technology provides immense hope in terms of education and employment opportunities for the disabled youngsters.
Snehadeep is working toward creating IT awareness and providing knowledge and specialized skills to empower the children and make them self-reliant and independent enough to take advantage of the employment and entrepreneurial opportunities in the IT-enabled society.
We extensively use JAWS [Job access with Speech], a screen-reading software to teach the visually challenged.
English language training is imparted to the students to improve their spoken skills and confidence, thereby enabling them to become effective communicators. Imparting English language training also improves their professional capabilities.
Prakruti Snehi is a waste management and recycle programme that Snehadeep started in 2009. The mission of this programme is 'to work towards a waste-free environment, with management being the only solution for safe, scientific and eco-friendly disciplinary on efficient usage of the resources available.'
Snehadeep runs a paper collection drive as a part of this mission. It collects newspapers, shredded paper, cartons, A4 size sheets, old magazines, used books (text and note books), plastic materials and other inorganic products. These are sold to recycling units and proceeds from them are utilized for funding Snehadeep activities. A part of papers is used as Braille sheet for the visually challenged students.
Snehadeep plans to expand this program and generate employment for the disabled. Currently, Snehadeep is operating this program across companies and generating revenue on a monthly basis and providing employment to many disabled people
Snehadeep established its cultural group to encourage talent among the disabled and the disadvantaged youth and nurture their skills and passion to perform on the stage. Talent is spotted in art, traditional and folk dance and vocal and instrumental music.
Training is provided to students to fine-tune their skills. In addition, opportunities are provided to the talent to perform in front of appreciative audience. Cultural troops from Snehadeep have performed to a wide range of audience in India, USA, and UK.
Mobility training is of crucial importance to people with vision impairments. It entails developing skills required to move around safely in the environment.
Some people with vision impairments have enough residual vision to move around independently. Others may require a mobility aid such as a long cane to enable the individual to find a safe way in front of them
Training may involve advising persons with low vision on using their residual vision to move around safely. It may also involve in-depth training on using a mobility aid such as white cane.
